What photos to put on your Google listing, and how to add them

When someone searches for a place to eat or get their hair cut, they see your listing before they see your website. Photos are most of what they see.

What to add

Google's advice is photos of your storefront, products and services.

  1. The outside of your building. Google says an exterior photo helps customers recognize your business when they visit. Someone circling a street for your door will thank you.
  2. The inside, taken on a normal day with the lights on.
  3. Your work. Dishes, cuts, finished paint jobs, a window display. Whatever someone is paying you for.
  4. You and your team. A real person is a reason to pick a business over the next one.
  5. A logo and a cover photo. The cover photo is what people see first. If yours is poor quality, Google says a customer-submitted photo may be picked instead.

What Google wants

A recent phone photo meets all of that. Don't use stock images.

How to add them on a computer

  1. Open Google Search or Maps and search for your business name and city.
  2. Click Photos, then Add photos.
  3. Pick your files. You can choose several.

For a cover photo or logo, click Add a cover photo or Add a logo. To replace one, click Change cover or Change logo.

Keep them fresh

Google shows your newest photos first, so a few new ones every month beat a hundred old ones. Add one when a job finishes, a new dish goes on, or the window changes.

Customers can add photos to your listing too. If one is wrong or unflattering, you can ask Google to remove it.

If you'd like the same photos on your website, text them to me. They're the best part of it.

Send me your business name.

I'll tell you what I'd change.
