How to get more Google reviews without being pushy

A customer leaves happy and says "thank you, great job". Then they go home, and the review never happens. Not because they didn't mean it. Because writing one takes finding your business on Google and working out where to click.

The fix is to hand them the link while they're still pleased with you.

Get your review link

Do this once, on a computer.

  1. Go to business.google.com and sign in.
  2. Select Read reviews.
  3. Select Get more reviews (it has a share icon).
  4. Copy the link, or right-click the QR code and save the image.

Google's help page says the QR code can only be made in a computer browser, not on a phone.

Where to put it

Google suggests receipts, thank-you emails and the end of a chat, and a printed QR code in the shop. A few that suit a Vernon business:

Ask in the moment they're thanking you. A text sent a week later gets ignored.

What Google bans

Don't offer anything in exchange for a review: no discount, no free coffee, no entry in a draw. Google calls that fake and misleading content and strictly prohibits it. Don't risk your listing for one more review.

Customers must also be signed in to a Google account to leave a review. If they don't have one, they can make one with any email address, not only Gmail.

What to do with the ones you get

Reply to every one, short and kind. How to answer a bad Google review covers the awkward ones. A reply to a good one takes ten seconds and shows the next reader that someone is home.

If you'd like a card printed with your QR code, text me. I'll make the file.

Send me your business name.

I'll tell you what I'd change.
