Google says my business is closed. Here's how to fix it
Someone searches your name on a Saturday, sees "Closed", and phones the next place on the list. You will never find out.
It's fixable, and it's nearly always one of three things.
1. Your listing was marked closed
Google lets you mark a business as Temporarily closed or Permanently closed. Someone with access (you, a former employee, the person who built your site) may have clicked it, maybe during a renovation or over a winter break, and never switched it back. Google says a permanently closed profile can still appear in Search and Maps, clearly marked as closed.
To switch it back:
- Go to business.google.com and sign in.
- Select Edit profile, then Hours.
- In the "Business hours" section, select Edit next to "Hours", then Open with main hours.
- Tick each day you're open and set the times with the dropdowns.
- Select Save.
One warning from Google's own help page: if your business was marked permanently closed as part of a location or name change, don't reopen it. Add a new business instead.
2. Your hours are wrong or missing
If the hours don't match when you actually open, Google shows closed when you're not. The steps in How to change your hours on Google, and set holiday hours fix that.
3. A holiday setting is still on
If you set special hours for a holiday and left the box on Closed, Google keeps showing you closed on that date. Open Edit profile, then Hours, then the pencil next to "Special hours", and delete or change the date.
When you can't sign in
If you don't know which Google account manages your listing, or you can't get in, text me. I'll help you work out who has access. It's a common mess: the listing was set up years ago by someone who has since moved on.
